What is BirthTracks?
BirthTracks is a web-based statistics program to collect and track data related to births.
Who can use BirthTracks?
While BirthTracks was specifically designed for nurse-midwives, BirthTracks can be used by CPMs, lay midwives, Labor and Delivery nurses, doulas, OBs, Family Practice MDs, or anyone interested in keeping track of births they attend.
Is BirthTracks tricky to use? Does it take a long time to enter data?
BirthTracks is designed to be user-friendly, and intuitive. Entering that birth at 4:00 AM after no sleep should only take a few minutes!
I'm nervous about entering my clients' names on the internet. Couldn't anyone access this? Does it meet HIPAA requirements?
BirthTracks is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of your patients' health information. BirthTracks will not use or disclose any of the data provided by you or others in your practice in a manner that would violate the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA") regulations. In accordance with HIPAA's Security Rule, we can ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all electronic health information that we receive, maintain or transmit. Please see our notice of privacy practices.
How does the passcode work?
In addition to 128 bit SSL encryption, BirthTracks uses an encryption algorithm that encrypts that data (mother's name) using your unique passcode. Everyone who enters data at your practice needs to have this key. To view the data, it needs to be decrypted which is only possible with the key that you have.
To enhance security, BirthTracks never knows your key, and hence can not view the data. The encryption is so secure that if you lose this passcode, there is NO way to retrieve this data, so be careful with your passcode.
I'm very used to my log book, is there anyway I can create that with BirthTracks?
Absolutely. You can choose to print your births individually or in a log format. You can also print out summaries of each birth, monthly statistics, yearly statistics, there are many options.
Can I enter information prior to signing up with BirthTracks?
Absolutely. You can enter all your previous births to keep lifetime statistics.
How do I know that BirthTracks will be around for a while?
I don't want to be committed to a system that may change, get outrageously expensive, or go out of business.
Please read Our Story. We started BirthTracks with the goal of making data collection easy and efficient for midwives. Any changes we make will be to enhance what we already have, and what our users desire, price increases will be rare and only as needed, and we have NO intention of doing anything other than continuing to provide this service to you!
